Frequently Asked Questions about TSL Vancouver:

1. What does TSL stand for?
TSL stands for Theatre as a Second Language. Theatre + ESL = TSL

2. What is TSL?
TSL stems from the notion that true learning involves the body, as well as the mind. Using theatre techniques and games to teach a language makes a lot of sense because communicating effectively also involves body language.

3. Who teaches the class, actors or teachers?
All our programs are designed and taught by actors and language teachers. TSL is truly innovative. It truly amalgamates the two components to create a completely new program which is neither theatre, nor ESL. It is simply...TSL.

4. Are we expected to perform?
To borrow Shakespeare’s words... “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players” so in that sense, yes, you are expected to perform. At work or in social situations, you need to communicate effectively if you want to get ahead. TSL is focussed on helping you reach your professional and social objectives by improving your communication skills. Just that. No more, no less.

5. Why do you offer only intensive classes?
TSL is focussed on results. If you are looking for work or wanting to get ahead by improving your language skills, time is of the essence. There are plenty of language classes for those who want to learn at their own pace or who are only looking to get familiarized with a language. TSL’s programs are designed to be life transforming. Even a three-hour workshop will make a difference. You will learn simple techniques to help you feel more confident and in our Western society, confidence is key.
